Elina Svitolina’s win over Jil Teichmann proved decisive, earning the second point against Switzerland and officially securing Ukraine’s place in the Billie Jean King Cup World Group Finals. This match marked a historic milestone for Ukrainian tennis.
This breakthrough is not just a sporting achievement. It is a symbol of resilience, unity, and belief. In the incredibly difficult conditions of war, the Ukrainian team demonstrated to the world their strength of spirit, solidarity, and will to win.
Statement from the Ukraine Women’s National Team after the victory:
“We dedicate this historic victory — reaching the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup World Team Championship — to our warriors. It is thanks to you that we are able to play, to win, and to proudly raise the Ukrainian flag on the world stage. You are our driving force and endless inspiration.
We are immensely grateful to the Ukrainian people and all our fans for your faith and incredible support!
A special thanks to the Polish people for your warm welcome here in Poland. You made us feel truly at home — just as you have done for millions of Ukrainians over the past three years.
Dziękuję bardzo!
As Easter approaches — a time to gather with loved ones — we want this victory to remind the world: thousands of Ukrainian children are still considered missing, forcibly taken to Russia, torn from their families, homes, and identities.
The return of all Ukrainian children abducted by Russia must be an unconditional and integral part of any peace process. A just and lasting peace is impossible without bringing our children home.
